Catholic Social Teaching (CST)

At the heart of our Academy’s mission is a commitment to Catholic Social Teaching (CST), which calls us to reflect on and take action for the dignity of every human person and the common good. CST emphasises principles such as human dignity, solidarity, care for creation, and preferential option for the poor, reminding us that we are all called to work toward justice, fairness, and the flourishing of every individual.

As a school, we are actively embedding this fight for social justice into every aspect of our curriculum and culture. During our recent INSET day (October 2024), teachers worked together to plan lessons and units that align with these values, aiming to inspire our young people to not only understand the world’s injustices but to actively participate in addressing them. Whether it is through discussions about equality in history lessons, exploring stewardship of the earth in mathematics, or reflecting on human dignity in science, we strive to prepare our students to be agents of change.

Catholic Social Teaching is woven into every aspect of life at our Academy, extending far beyond individual subjects. Our assemblies regularly highlight themes of compassion, justice, and respect, encouraging students to think critically about the role they play in their communities and the wider world. In PSHE lessons and form time, students engage in discussions about social issues, personal responsibility, and the importance of standing up for what is right.

Even in our daily interactions, CST principles guide us, as staff and students alike strive to treat each other with dignity, kindness, and understanding. Through these experiences, we aim to create a school culture where the values of Catholic Social Teaching truly shape and inspire every part of our community.

Through this commitment, we hope to inspire all our students to answer the call to action and contribute to building a more just and compassionate world
