We believe in the importance of learning from History. This enables students to study different aspects of the past, so they can engage in key issues such as, conflict, understand what drives change and how the past influences present. The challenging and exciting topics covered across all key stages will resonate with students, helping them gain new insights into the world around them. The course involves much debate and discussion and there are excellent career opportunities as History is a traditional subject with a high academic credibility.
Staffing
The department is staffed with an experienced team of two committed History specialist teachers who inspire students to explore History outside the classroom.
Courses
All Key Stage 3 students have two lessons of history each week. Units of work focus on a chronological framework that explores important moments in British History while encouraging students to question the impact of these events. Key questions include:
- How did William of Normandy take control of England?
- Was Anne Boleyn a villain or a victim?
- Was the ‘Miracle of Dunkirk’ a triumph or disaster?
